A portrait to commemorate the launch of his new novel, ‘Chats with The Dead’. This is Shehan’s second novel. In it, a Sri Lankan photojournalist tries to solve his own murder, navigate a twisted afterlife and fight his own redemption. It’s a dark, funny dissection of Sri Lanka and like his previous novel, ‘Chinaman’, is highly recommended.

A few pictures from 2011, the year our first scanner succumbed to this project.

It’s nearly time for the second run of the show. I’ve eavesdropped on a few meetings and it sounds like the story is going to change – even if you saw the first run (maybe especially if you did) come and see the next one. Updates and such at @mindadventures on instagram and

Last night the cast moved into the Lionel Wendt Theatre after weeks of rehearsing at the S. Thomas’ Prep hall.  Right now they’re tweaking lights and sound and reminding themselves of the feel of wood under their feet. Maya runs from 6-8 September 2019 – come see the show if you’re in town.  More info @mindadventures on instagram.

New work by my favourite theatre ruffians, @mindadventures who are making an adventure called Maya. Even in the rough state of a rehearsal, it’s graceful, visceral, mythical. Show dates – Sept 6-8th, 2019 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.  More info here- and here

Tried photographing Cosplayers for the first time. They’re such a lovely bunch – friendly and patient. Can’t wait for next year’s Con. Blessings upon the furry feet of the organisers for letting me turn up at the last minute and shoot for an hour or two.

The rest of the set is here, in case you’d like a peek:

Mind Adventures’ Paraya goes on the boards again; this time, as part of the arts festival, Colomboscope. Tickets are now sold out on both nights. I really hope you got yours; this is an important, bold offering from contemporary Sri Lankan theatre. Directed by Arun Welandawe-Prematilleke. The simultaneous narratives (there are nine) take place in an alternate reality Sri Lankan dystopia where the government has subjugated its citizenry by means of a thought-suppressing drug. The Hotel Rio, burned during the 1983 race riots forms the setting of the play. More information here:….

Sellotape, directed by Ruwanthie de Chickera. A final year drama school production by the University of Colombo. An engagingly creepy and weirdly abstract bit of theatre. What a shame there’s no repeat performances.

King coconut (thambili) husks, used to shore up wall between stalls. Apparently when it rains, mud fills up the hollow husks, solidifies when it’s dry and makes the wall stronger.
